Team Principal Wolff has led the Mercedes team to historic achievements in F1

Toto Wolff is in final negotiations to offload a portion of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

This transaction estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – following McLaren were valued at £3.5 billion in a change of ownership structure in September.

The Austrian executive, who holds a 33% stake of Mercedes F1, would sell a shareholding in the region of 5%.

Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team principal and chief executive officer should the deal proceed.

Shareholder Structure

Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own one-third of the enterprise.

An official representative said: "We will be making no official statement on the matter. The governance of the team will remain unchanged, and all three partners are fully committed to continued achievements of the brand in Formula One."

Financial Increase

The deal signifies a substantial rise in worth of the Mercedes team after Ineos Group bought its stake for £208 million in 2022.

This surge demonstrates the growth in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently as a consequence of the increasing appeal of Formula 1 globally.

This was also seen in the box-office performance of the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed more than $630 million (£458 million) at the box office.

The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the highest-earning sports movie to date.

Present Standings

Mercedes are second in the team standings, behind McLaren Racing, with three races remaining in the current championship.

Their lead driver British driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 races so far and is fourth in the individual standings behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

The team secured a unprecedented eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
